چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is one of the possible complications of radiotherapy treatment of brain tumors. The auditory system of patients with brain tumors often is placed inside of radiation field and receives a significant amount of radiation dose resulting in hearing loss. The purpose of this study was to compare contouring and delivery dose to cochlea and inner ear in two techniques of 3D conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) vs 2D conventional radiotherapy in patients with brain tumors Materials and Methods: This was a prospective study. Forty-three patients (23male and 20 female) who received radiotherapy for brain tumors in the radiation oncology department of Isfahan Milad Hospital during 2016 entered the study. Computerized tomography (CT) images of the patients were used for contouring of cochlea and inner ear by radiation oncologist. Dose Volume Histograms (DVHs) for 2D and 3D techniques were compared using TiGRT treatment planning system. Results: In 2D technique the mean dose of the cochlea and inner ear was 2624 ± 338.7(cGy) and 2718.3 ± 341.3(cGy), respectively. In 3DCRT technique the mean dose of the cochlea and inner ear was 2507±294.6(cGy) and 2581± 295.6(cGy), respectively. The mean dose of inner ear and cochlea in 3DCRTmethod was %5.3 and %4.6 lower than 2D, respectively Conclusion: The study of dosimetric parameters of the auditory system in treatment planning of two methods of radiation therapy showed that there was no significant difference between the doses of cochlea and inner ear in 2D and 3D methods ( Pvalues=0.86,0.85).Therefore in treatment planning of these two radiotherapy techniques, contour of cochlea can be replaced by inner ear.

Effect of Bolus Frequency and Its Thickness in Postmastectomy Three-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy on Skin Dose for Superposition Algorithm

Introduction: The postmastectomy radiotherapy uses bolus to improve the coverage close to the skin; however, it needs to be removed in case of severe skin toxicity. This study investigated the effect of bolus parameters (i.e., frequency and thickness) for the superposition algorithm on skin dose in postmastectomy three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT). <str...

3-Dimensional conformal radiotherapy versus intensity modulated radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer: Dosimetric and radiobiologic analysis

Background: To analyze the dosimetric and radio biologic advantages between intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and 3 dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) and selection of optimal photon energy for IMRT treatments. Material and methods: 24 patients with localized prostate carcinoma were planned for 3DCRT and IMRT techniques. Radiation dose of 54 Gy with 2 Gy/fraction, was planned to ...

Contouring the middle and inner ear on radiotherapy planning scans.

The purpose of this study was to establish guidelines that help radiation oncologists contour the inner and middle ear on treatment planning scans. The radiotherapy computed tomography (CT) scans of 15 previously treated patients were reviewed for the ability to identify 3 separate auditory structures. The middle ear, the cochlea, and the vestibular apparatus were identified and contoured on ea...

Design of a 2-Dimensional, Pseudo-Voltage-Domain, Silicon Cochlea

A 2-dimensional cochlear model offers several advantages over the usual 1-dimensional implementations. It allows to properly model the different modes of wave propagation through the cochlea. Furthermore, the number of filters per octave can be increased without increasing the delay along the cochlea, which is not possible with a 1dimensional model. Another practical advantage of the 2-D implem...

Comparison of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional conformal treatment plans in gastric cancer radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND Postoperative chemoradiotherapy is accepted as standard treatment for stage IB-IV, M0 gastric cancer. Radiotherapy (RT) planning of gastric cancer is important because of the low radiation tolerance of surrounding critical organs. The purpose of this study was to compare the dosimetric aspects of 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) treatment plans, with the twin aims of evaluat...

On contour representation of two dimensional patterns

Two-dimensional patterns are used in many research areas in computer science, ranging from image processing to specification and verification of complex software systems (via scenarios). The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, we present the basis of a new formal representation of two-dimensional patterns based on contours and their compositions. Then, we present efficient algorithms ...
